Harbor View Infrastructure
Project Overview
The Harbor View Infrastructure project was a critical public works initiative aimed at upgrading aging storm drain and sewer systems in a dense urban environment near the San Diego waterfront. Pogo Dog Development Co. was selected for our expertise in deep excavation and complex shoring.
The scope involved the replacement of 3,000 linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) storm drain and the rehabilitation of existing sewer manholes. The project required working in tight rights-of-way with significant groundwater challenges due to the proximity to the bay.
We employed advanced dewatering systems and custom-engineered slide rail shoring to safely install large box culverts and deep sewer connections, all while maintaining access for local businesses and residents.
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge: High Groundwater
Excavation depths reached 18 feet below grade, well below the static water table, posing a risk of trench instability.
Solution
Installed a comprehensive well-point dewatering system to lower the water table locally, ensuring a dry and stable working bottom.
Challenge: Urban Congestion
The work zone was located in a high-traffic downtown area with limited staging space for materials and equipment.
Solution
Utilized just-in-time delivery for pipe and materials and coordinated strict traffic control phasing to keep lanes open.
